Why Use Solar Power
Is there really a need for solar power? Lets take a look at other power sources first.
Coal... In the early 19th and 20th century coal was king. It was used for everything from heating buildings to creating steam to power industrial machines and for creating electricity. At the time it was a very useful source of energy. It kept people warm in the winter, moved them from place to place, fulfilled their energy needs for electricity which ran their household applicances.
Then came the pollution and environmental issues. There was greenhouse gasses which were destroying the ozone, and big coal companies were stripping the land and leaving big holes in the earth. Some were even removing whole mountains to reach the coal. It is still going on to this day.
Oil... When oil was discovered in Pennsylvania it set off an explosive event. Oil wells were popping up everywhere. Soon big companies were monopolizing on oil. Oil exploration went everywhere. No place on earth was safe from these big oil companies, including the oceans. Oil was no better than coal for the pollution and environmental issues. In fact it was probably worse than coal. Oil spills were an environmental disaster. Wildlife died because of huge oil spills. Two famous spills come to mind. EXXON and BP.
Hydro-electric... Hydro-electric power is a little safer than coal or oil but not by much. Big hydro-electric dams flood large tracts of land where wild life once flourished. Most of these dams are getting old and out of date. What will happen if they start breaking down. Blackouts occur too often because the power grid that was built with these facilities is not up to date. The failure of a large hydro-electric facility could be disastrous. Whole cities and even whole states could come to a standstill. It would be total chaos.
Nuclear... When nuclear energy was first put in use it was all the rage. Everybody wanted a nuclear plant to produce electricity. It seemed safe. Everybody said it was safe. Then came Three Mile Island and worse yet, Chernobyl. When Chernobyl blew up radiation spread over a large portion of the Soviet Union. It is estimated that about 4000 deaths were caused by the radiation fallout. Nuclear power is a lot safer today than when Chernobyl exploded but I am sure it could happen again. And what if terrorist decided that they wanted to blow up a nuclear plant? In a well populated area this would be devastating.
Solar...Solar energy is not a new energy. It has been around since the beginning of time. It keeps our world green. It keeps our wildlife alive. It keeps our oceans alive. The sun comes up every day so it is a practical source of energy. As for environmental issues I can only think of one that some people would cry about and that is that a large solar farm would take up a large amount of land to construct. Solar energy is safe. It does not pollute like other energy sources, so it is environmentally safe. Solar energy is renewable because the sun always shines. Compared to the other sources of energy listed I think there should be more solar energy development around the world.
If you look at the facts stated above, plus I am sure you can come up with a few more, plus sooner or later our fossil fuels are going to run out, I think the question is "why not use solar"? It seems to be the logical answer to this question.

Reduce Energy Usage

We are slowly moving to a severe energy crisis with an ever increasing demand on energy supplies.
